First I want to tell you that I'm going to be doing "Top Ten Tuesday!" Every week, starting January 1, 2012. This means the top ten things that make it that week ; ). But for now, it's all about the holidays : ).
The first Christmas I spent with my husband in our home in Long Beach California in 1979, we were excited to be in our own place. Hal went overboard with Christmas, as he actually did every year. And when I say overboard I mean extreme! There was barely room to walk in our living room.
And when Christmas day came, the kids and I were a bit overwhelmed by all the gifts. It was a great thing for the kids. As for me...not so much. Just about every present was for the house! A new state of the art microwave (remember those giant things?). New dishes, new cookware...well you get the picture.
I however, drug my sweet kids all over every mall in Southern Cali finding the perfect gifts for my guy. All personal. Yeah, boy was I ticked. But I smiled as if I was happy about it all and so the next year, more of the same.
And on out 5th Christmas together, I blew up like a spoiled child! I said, "I'm not married to this freaking house, I married to you! I get appliances for Christmas every year!"
And he said, I was buying the things you told me you loved when we first married. And I thought about it. Yep, I said it! I had told him I couldn't wait to get our own place and fill it with everything I love for the family. It would be my Christmas forever.
I however, did not mean literally forever! I can say after that Christmas, I never got another appliance as a gift ; } He actually became an amazingly thoughtful gifter. Moral of the story: Be very careful about what you say to your husband. There's no telling what you might get for Christmas forever! : ).
